ICD-10 Preparation Checklist
- Identify all potentially affected system and operational areas
- Determine area-specific resource needs (human, technological, and monetary)
- Establish an ICD-10 steering committee
- Build organizational awareness and commitment
- Identify key stakeholders (HIM, IT, Business Office, Finance/Revenue Cycle, Clinical)
- Evaluate systems and interfaces where codes are captured, exchanged, and reported
- Assess your areas of risk
- Identify all systems that assign, utilize or store diagnosis codes
- Identify all processes/policies that utilize diagnosis codes
- Identify all contractors and business partners that rely on diagnosis codes
- Obtain vendor commitment for readiness
- Evaluate interface engine support of ICD-10
- Create a budget
- Develop a plan, and begin implementing it
